Requirement

The MHA, a not-for-profit membership association representing nearly 160 Missouri hospitals and health systems, was seeking a transportable and rapidly deployable satellite communications solution to support an emergency communications network for public safety. In addition, because MHA personnel are not satellite experts, it needed to have readily available satellite training to ensure complete support for their communications network before or during an emergency situation.

Solution

Spacenet provided its advanced satellite services as part of an emergency response network for MHA. The network, deployed and managed by Spacenet, provided high-speed satellite based links to support critical data and voice communications in the case of a disaster or wireline connectivity failure. The innovative solution is based on Spacenet’s Connexstar Performance and Broadband series and its SkyEdge VSAT platform, and supports Voice over IP (VoIP), radio backhaul, and VPN Internet access. MHA is utilizing both fixed and transportable satellite services. In addition, Spacenet provided comprehensive technical support and training for deploying and maintaining a satellite-based emergency response communications system, as well as systems integration services with the customers’ existing equipment.

Success

The advanced emergency communications network provides numerous benefits to MHA, including an easy to deploy, versatile, and scaleable transportable solution that supports all of their applications. The solution is critical for public safety measures, providing a high reliability communications system in the case of a crisis or disaster. In addition, MHA access to readily available satellite training, ensuring complete support for their communications network before or during an emergency situation.
