Bass Hotels & Resorts Selects Spacenet to Provide VSAT Satellite Communications Network to 2,000 Hotels Nationwide

Internet-optimized Skystar Advantage® platform will be used for reservations network requiring high level of uptime 24 hours a day

McLean, VA, August 14, 2000 - Spacenet Inc. today announced it has been selected by Bass Hotels & Resorts® to provide a high-speed satellite communications network to 2,000 hotels nationwide. Bass Hotels & Resorts is a global hotel leader with more than 2,900 hotels in over 95 countries, including Inter-Continental®, Crowne Plaza®, Holiday Inn®, Holiday Inn Express® and Staybridge Suites®.

\Bass Hotels & Resorts officials said the company is implementing Gilat's Skystar Advantage Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) network to ensure support for new, IP-based networking applications it expects to deploy in the future.

Bass Hotels & Resorts will use its new Skystar Advantage VSAT network primarily for its central reservation services provided to hotels. In the future, the company expects to use Spacenet's VSAT solution for distributing video programming and Intenet content to remote sites and kiosks for live viewing, as well as for store-and-forward applications. These broadband IP applications may take the form of interactive video-on-demand and Internet connectivity for guest rooms, as well as interactive travel-services kiosks in hotel lobbies.

Under the terms of the agreement, Spacenet will provide Bass Hotels & Resorts with a comprehensive VSAT network solution that includes turnkey installation of all remote site equipment, as well as network operations and field maintenance. Replacement of Bass Hotels & Resorts' existing VSAT network has begun and is expected to be completed in early 2001.
