Spacenet Joins PCI Security Standards Council
as Newest Participating Organization
--Spacenet prioritizes payment data security issues
over satellite and common carrier communications with participation
in key standards setting body--
McLean, VA, August 12, 2008 — Spacenet
Inc., one of the world’s leading providers of satellite
and hybrid network services, announced today that it has joined
the PCI Security Standards Council as a new participating organization.
As a Participating Organization, Spacenet will work with the Council
to evolve the PCI Data Security Standard (DSS) and other payment
card data protection standards.
The PCI DSS, endorsed by American Express, Discover Financial
Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa Inc.,
requires merchants and service providers that store, process or
transmit customer payment card data to adhere to information security
controls and processes that ensure data integrity. More information
on the council and the standard can be found at www.pcisecuritystandards.org
As a member of the PCI Security Standards Council, Spacenet will
participate in the development of the latest payment card security
standards from the Council and become part of a growing community
that now includes more than 450 organizations. In an era of increasingly
sophisticated attacks on systems, adhering to the PCI DSS represents
an entity’s best protection against data criminals. By joining
as a Participating Organization, Spacenet is adding its voice
to the process and ensuring that its satellite and hybrid networks
will meet the highest standards for payment card data security.
“The PCI Security Standards Council is committed to helping
everyone involved in the payment chain protect consumer payment
data,” said Bob Russo, General Manager of the PCI Security
Standards Council. “By participating in the standards setting
process, Spacenet demonstrates they are playing an active part
in this important end goal.”
Spacenet President and COO Glenn Katz said, “To meet the
data integrity requirements of our retail clients, Spacenet continually
emphasizes the importance of payment card security over our networks.
In addition to achieving Service Provider Level I PCI compliance
of our infrastructure, we believe it is important that Spacenet
stay on the forefront of the industry in offering exceptional
levels of network security to our customers. By actively participating
in the PCI Security Standards Council, we look forward to playing
a direct role in the ongoing development of PCI standards.”
