McLean, VA – February 14, 2011 — Spacenet Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq: GILT) and a leading provider of broadband network solutions, announced today that its high-performance satellite communications services and equipment are being used by the Port of Long Beach to support business continuity and disaster recovery. The Port of Long Beach is the second-busiest seaport in the United States and moves everything from clothing and consumer electronics to petroleum and automobiles. The Port is using both fixed and transportable satellite systems including Spacenet’s Connexstar S2 satellite services based on the SkyEdge II VSAT platform and a transportable fly-away antenna.
“We are very pleased to be selected by one of America’s premier seaports and trade centers. With over $100 billion of trade value a year, the Port of Long Beach can’t risk any network downtime,” said Spacenet Vice President Mike Mazza. “Our fixed and transportable satellite communications network will provide the Port of Long Beach with an easy to deploy, flexible and reliable solution that supports their critical applications despite unforeseen events. This is a great application of our service.”
Spacenet’s satellite services are being used to support network backup for the Port’s existing data network in order to maintain communications in the case of an outage. The advanced SkyEdge II VSAT platform supports a broad range of service options and offers faster speeds than previous generations. It is optimized for IP applications, VoIP networks and two way video and provides higher availability. The transportable fly-away antenna integrated with Spacenet’s Connexstar S2 satellite service enables rapid deployment to ensure critical communications during emergency situations for the Port of Long Beach.
