Secure IPSec Backhaul - Maximum speed and security

Provides a no-hassle, rapidly deployable, fully managed Virtual Private Network between the Spacenet hub and your data center

In the standard Connexstar WAN service architecture, a customer’s data network traffic travels across the public Internet between the customer data center and the Spacenet hub. For customers seeking a more secure connection for their WAN, Spacenet offers a secure IPSec Backhaul Service.

Benefits include:

  • No-hassle, rapidly deployable, fully-managed IPSec Virtual Private Network between the Spacenet hub and your data center
  • Always-on, dedicated access at speeds of up to 1.544 Mbps
  • Traffic passing across the VPN connection is encrypted
  • Available in four data rates (1.544 Mbps, 1024 kbps, 512 kbps and 256 kbps)
  • Three service options are available – Spacenet-Managed Backhaul Service, Customer-Managed Backhaul Service, and Dedicated Terrestrial Backhaul Service

Secure IPSec Backhaul Technology:

Spacenet provides the customer with a pre-configured Cisco 17xx series (or equivalent) VPN router to be installed at the customer data center location. An IPSec-based VPN tunnel (of customer-selected size) is created between that router and a Cisco VPN concentrator at the Spacenet hub location. This tunnel is “always-on” and remains dedicated to a specific customer at the full connection speed, 24 hours a day. The traffic passing across this VPN connection is encrypted and masked from view of hostile network elements. From the Spacenet VPN concentrator, the data passes into the secure network of the Spacenet hub and across the DSL or VSAT link.

Customers may also choose to receive an additional “cold-spare” pre-configured Cisco 17xx series (or equivalent) router to be stored at the customer location and swapped out with the primary router in case of equipment failure.

Spacenet IPSec Backhaul Service Options:

  • Spacenet-Managed Backhaul Service
With this service, Spacenet performs all VPN management functions, including configuration, software upgrade/patches, troubleshooting and maintenance. The Spacenet IPSec Backhaul Service requires one-time hardware purchase and configuration fees as well as a monthly service charge based on VPN bandwidth level.
  • Customer-Managed IPSec Backhaul Service
This service allows customers to purchase, configure and manage their own VPN backhaul equipment. Under this arrangement, Spacenet does not provide any configuration or maintenance assistance, although “read-only” access to the VPN equipment is required. With the Customer-Managed IPSec Backhaul Service option, a one-time VPN equipment installation/setup fee is required, as well as monthly service charges based on VPN bandwidth levels and a monthly VPN equipment colocation fee.
  • Dedicated Terrestrial Backhaul Service
With this service, customers provision and manage their own dedicated terrestrial connection (typically Frame Relay or leased line) to the Spacenet hub. Customers are provided with an Ethernet connection into the Spacenet hub network and must assume all telco/provisioning and routing/networking responsibilities for the connection. For this service package, a one-time installation/setup fee is charged as well as a monthly Ethernet IP port and router colocation fee. A minimum initial site order also applies.rvices so that you can focus on running your business, not your network.
