True Hybrid Satellite/Terrestrial Networks
True Hybrid Satellite/Terrestrial Networks
Spacenet is able to leverage its satellite and terrestrial network experience to provide truly seamless hybrid network solutions in a way unmatched by any other provider. This hybrid delivery can take two forms: hybrid connectivity at a site level or at a network level.
Site-Level Hybrid Networks
Spacenet is able to provide both a terrestrial link and a satellite link at a single location. Customers may choose to route different networks via the two connections (for example, hotels might route their public in-room connectivity LAN via the DSL, and the back-office secure LAN via the VSAT). Or customers may choose to mix the two together for mixed connectivity or backup service.
Leveraging Spacenet's Prysm application platform, we are able to provide both hybrid connectivity (choose which ports/applications/addresses use which connection method) and failover connectivity (activate the VSAT when the DSL fails, or vice versa). Only Spacenet is able to provide this type of automatic satellite/terrestrial failover connectivity, since we have a unique ability to control the VSAT.
Network-Level Hybrids
At the network level, Spacenet is also able to provide hybrid networks through blending our Layer 2 DSL service (not available from other VSAT network operators!) into a seamless network with our VSAT networks.
All connectivity, whether via DSL or VSAT, is routed through Spacenet's core hub infrastructure. The DSL traffic is transported across a private ATM network back to the hub, while the VSAT traffic is sent securely over the air back to the hub. Here, the sites are managed and administered as a single network (including contiguous private or public addressing). Note that this level of integration is only possible with Layer 2 DSL services, although it can be engineered for Layer 3 DSL services using VPN connections across the public Internet to the hub.
